Jan. 25th, 2013 10:43 pmKairos Aether is being Sneaky.
Very, very sneaky.
It's not every day that Connor isn't in his smithy, doing blacksmithy things, smelling like smoke and metal and sweat - all things she's come to not-so-secretly lust for, so she's not exactly complaining there.
And it's certainly not every day that Kai finds herself in his shop, looking to unload something she'd made him.
She settles on the anvil.
When Connor sees it, he'll probably recognize Kai's usual heavy off-white cardstock. This time, using Macleod colors, it's decorated with a stylized 495, using some of the scrollwork she's seen Connor use these many months.
On the inside, there's a simple, You didn't think I forgot, did you?

Have A Nice Cup of Tea and A Sit Down
Mar. 7th, 2012 11:46 pm"Frère Jacques, frère Jacques,
Dormez-vous? Dormez-vous?
Sonnez les matines! Sonnez les matines!
Din, dan, don. Din, dan, don."
There's silence, then a few light, bright giggles of the four year old sort. "Again? But I don't like this song." Astrid identifies the voice of her younger daughter Kairos. She moves silently closer to the half-closed door, leans in, and listens.
"Please, Mister! Let's have a nice cup of tea. You promised. Kal won't, she thinks it's babyish to have a nice tea party." Astrid listens hard, almost half expecting to hear a man respond to her. Kairos never seemed to grow out of her invisible friend phase, even though Kalyca had months ago .. but she thought Kai's little friend was a mermaid named Lissa.
No male voice came.
But Kairos obviously was listening to someone, because she sang the old French nursery song again, slightly faster, slightly more annoyed. And then came the sound of two chairs being pulled out, and the sudden sharp scent of freshly brewed tea. "My mommy makes the best cakes! Won't you have some, Mister?"
Another pause. Then, suddenly, Astrid nearly falls over as her Persian cat, Boris, screeches and runs out of the room past her. She thought he'd had on some of Kai's doll clothes.
"No! Bad Mister! You can't eat Boris!"
Astrid runs into the room, prepared to fight.
Alone in the room sat her tiny blonde daughter looking confused at her mother.
"Mister's gone," she says plaintively. "He wouldn't stay for a nice sit down, Mommy."

"Are you an angel?"
I looked up from the activity table I was setting up for the Way's afternoon and evening kids. There was a little girl standing in front of me, maybe four years old. Disheveled dishwater blonde hair, dusky skin with a smattering of freckles. Cornflower blue eyes looked at me questioningly. There was a bit of defiance, too, like maybe she expected me to say yes or something.
"Nope!" I put down the brushes I was distributing and crouched down a little. I didn't get much closer, though. I didn't want to scare her. At barely 5'2", I'm not used to being on the tall side of the conversation. "I'm a Kairos. That's a type of sylph. Do you know what a sylph is?"
"Course I do. It's a faerie."
"Yup. I like to float a lot."
"That's ...nice." Oh, four year old derision. That's a new low.
"Hey, what can I call you?" Gotta call her something, right?
"Dawnie."
"And what's a Dawnie?" is out of my mouth before I can stop it. All of a sudden I wanted to slap myself for that line. So corny!
"Hangry."
Hangry? What kind of word is hangry?
"It's when you're so hungry you're mad about it."
My eyebrows raised right up around my hairline. "You can read my mind?"
Dawnie looks like she's just barely resisting rolling her eyes at my obvious stupidity. "No ma'am. Me and my brother have to 'splain about it enough. Figured you wouldn't know it either."
Point for pintsize.
I wipe my hands on my pants. "Well, Miss Hangry, if you're hungry, we can get you a snack." And figure out where your brother is. And your parents.
I stood up straight again, offered my hand. "We'll just go over there." I point at the snack table, which has chicken salad sandwiches and cucumber sandwiches wrapped up in little sandwich bags, along with whole fruit, just waiting for the kidlets. "There's some juice and some little sandwiches you can eat. Crusts already removed."
Dawnie doesn't take my hand - in fact she looks at it like it's going to sprout fangs or something - but she walks with me over to the table. Before I can tell her to go ahead, she pretty much shoves three of the little finger sandwiches into her mouth, and three more into her pockets. They're the chicken ones, so obviously she's not of the sort that aren't carnivores. Or she was too hungry to care.
"You gonna take those to your brother?" I asked, pushing a straw into a little juice box for her.
"Yep." There's a little head-nod, and she looks down at the floor.
"You know you can bring him here, right?" I tell her gently. "He doesn't have to stay away."
"I know. People told me you're nice. That there's angels here." There goes that I-don't-think-so-look again.
"Well we are! Nice, I mean." I grab a little sandwich and practically inhale it, too. I'd forgotten lunch. And breakfast. Connor's gonna kill me if he finds out I forgot to eat today. Ahem. "There's all sorts here." I continue helpfully. "My in laws are angels, and there's human types, too. I've got a vampire friend that drops in sometimes."
She tilts her head. "You feed vampires here?!"
"Well of course," I say, sounding like it's nothing. "They're people too."
"The sparkly ones?"
"...Nope. Haven't seen any of those." Thank goodness. Sanctuary's a hot spot for weirdos, but none of the Stephanie Meyer type. "But I think they're people too."
Dawnie starts to pay more attention to the food, not minding one bit that she's putting away enough for a small army. That's okay, because my sister's in the kitchen, doing that baker thing. Except she's in there cutting the crusts off of tiny little finger sandwiches.
"I'm gonna be right over here," I point back to the activity table. "After you get some food, why don't you go make something for your brother, and your Mom and Dad?"
She nods dismissively. I watch her for a moment, trying to figure this little girl out. She's a lot like the street kids I've met. Guarded. Hooded. Already completely jaded at such a young age. Almost like a feral kitten that doesn't want to trust the hand that feeds it, or offers it safety and warmth.
So I go back to the table and finish putting out the paints and paper towels and brushes, every once and a while looking around for the little one. It doesn't surprise me when she stuffs more sandwiches and fruit and juice boxes into her pockets, and it doesn't surprise me when she attempts to sneak back out.
I'd planned on following her, just to make sure she was safe when she stops dead in the doorway. There's a man standing there. He's tall, just a little more golden skinned than she is, but he's got the same dirty blonde hair, same bright blue eyes. She stares up at him, mouth open, and I have to smile. The man pretty much radiates light from within, and meeting Jake Knight is always life changing.
"Hey, Dawnie," I call. "You asked about angels?"

Day 13 - This week, in great detail.
Nov. 8th, 2010 04:07 amAlrighty. What I've done this week.
...Don't people get tired of me telling them "I went to the bakery. I went to the Way. I went to work. I took Regina for a walk"?

...Don't people get tired of me telling them "I went to the bakery. I went to the Way. I went to work. I took Regina for a walk"?
Well.
- I made out with Connor.
- A lot, mind.
- I actually made dinner. (Got home before he did! Haha! I win!)
- I got some murals done for Thorne.
- I got the 3rd degree for "living with a man I barely know" from Michael.
- I told Michael he lives with a freaking succubus, so he might wanna check his holier then thou's.
- I was reminded Michael is an angel. (Well I guess he is holier than me.)
- Got high on candy! O.O how'd that happen!
- Managed NOT to have stoned sex! (woo!)
- Put the candy away for when I need to ply Connor with boozy stuff to get him in a good mood. (Cat's out the bag.)
- Talked to a guy about a trade in on my car.
- Just told Connor about the trade in. :D (Well.. this is better than a text message, right?)
- Became a pimp. (Reminds me, John, how'd the date with the lovely Brea go? She's not 80, so I bet it was fun! :P)
( The rest. )
Since Kai is an OC, I can't exactly point to YouTube video clips. (Oh how I wish I could!) But in my head she sounds a lot like Alison Krauss. Except .. well, without the twang. Kai's from France, not Illinois. I love Alison's voice, and.. I think it fits better for Kai than the actual PB's voice (though I love Taylor's CD..)
Singing "If I didn't know better" (embedding disabled)
Singing "If I didn't know better" (embedding disabled)
I was gonna take pictures and post those like I've seen a lot of blogs do, but .. well. Haha. I can't find my SD card. For those who are about to click the comment link and ask me if I've looked in the freezer, the answer is YES I DID. And no it's not there. YES, I DID look behind the peas. Get a grip. :P
So here's what's in my bag.
I .. made mine. I know you're shocked, right? Well, I purchased a black cotton bag - you know the type, sort of plain, like you'd find at the grocery store - and painted it. I've been experimenting with sugar skulls and Dia de los Muertos has really inspired me of late, so I painted a woman on it in shades of gray and white. Then I dumped glitter and faux gems on it. (I know, I know. Roll your eyes, I don't care! LOL) And then I noticed Hot Topic has one sort of like it. (Mine's better.)
I found that link when I went to see if I could find a link to my wallet: And I did. Do not judge.
I have my new phone in there right now. I finally got my iPhone! :D Connor's promised to make sure I don't leave it in the freezer again. I've also got the blue Nano dad got me for Christmas. Plus my Skullcandy.
I keep a book in there, for when things get slow at work or at The Way (or if I'm on a bus), a sketchbook, a makeup case full of pens and pencils and a couple of charcoal sticks. A small first aid kit, with some medicines for headaches, Band-Aids, Neosporin, that sort of thing.
Keys. Usually some sort of candy too, LOL.
That's it!

Day 11 – Your siblings, in great detail
Oct. 13th, 2010 02:15 amMy sister is older than me by three minutes. I could mention our 'twin connection', or how we've managed to stay close through so much through the years. But I think that would be a disservice to her. She's much more than my twin, you know?
She's one of the strongest people I know. Bullheaded. Occassionally she comes across as a bully, but I think that's because of the responsibility heaped on her when we were younger. It's always been very 'Kalyca knows best', even if she didn't. A little spoiled, too, but then we both were. But she's very loyal. Loving.
I think growing up I was pretty jealous of her. She was allowed to go to public schools (even though she refused, she wanted to be with me), she had boys drooling over her.. she wasn't considered 'a detriment to our society' like I was. Of course she never believed the bureaucratic and religious bullshit, and that was a godsend. She's the one who told my parents we were moving to Sanctuary to open up shop, when I was still in pipe-dream land and afraid to voice my wishes. She did a lot of that, speaking up when I was afraid to.
She's an amazing dancer. I once thought she was going to go pro, sell out theaters and be on TV. But one day she came home with about a thousand dollars worth of baking supplies and never looked back. She's got this capacity for baking I've never seen before. It's like crack in the form of a brownie.
She recently got married, back in May (has it been that long already?!) to one of my closest friends. I expect her to tell me she's pregnant any day now. I saw Jake's sister, who is an oracle, buying up some baby blankets about a week ago...haha.
She's also deathly phobic of the color yellow.

Easy! This is yesterday's. I'll do Day 11 later tonight!
Anyway.
In great detail, really?
Like anyone really wants to know what my underwear looks like, or what I wear to bed.
Victoria Secret's push up bras. I like a least to pretend I have breasts! It was the brown color - I guess they're supposed to be 'flesh' colored? But they're entirely too dark to match *my* skin. I don't tan well. Not that dark, anyway. Matching boy shorts. (No, Hyou, you don't get a picture. *eyeroll*)
PJs are .. probably the sexiest things in the world. BEHOLD! (Not me, obviously, but from the website I bought them at!)
And for today's out and about clothes - well, yes, have a picture. It's been kind of chilly these days. Thanks to Nate for snapping it for me! :D

((Obviously not Kai's PB, but.. have you seen the stuff Taylor Momsen is wearing these days?!))

Day 09 - Your beliefs, in great detail
Oct. 10th, 2010 09:12 pmMy beliefs..
Well. I has them. (Insert cute LOLcat here.)
I believe that we have a responsibility to be the change we want to see in the world.
I believe people do a lot of bad things in the world, but I figure more people do good. Thing is, all the bad stuff gets all the press.
I believe people are people. Not good, not evil. We all have a great capacity for both.
I believe Sanctuary is the greatest place on (this) Earth. Even if there are dark places where you can be sold into slavery.
I believe everyone deserves a second chance.
I believe everyone deserves a third chance.
I believe kids should be seen and heard and believed.
I believe love isn't always enough.
I believe in forgiveness.
I believe in equality.
I believe anger is a great but at the same time the hardest emotion to control.
I believe you have to indulge in anger in order to be healthy.
I believe in gods and goddesses.
I believe in demons.
I believe in angels.
I believe in the afterlife.
I believe in soul mates.
I believe that people can have more than one soulmate.
I believe in you.

Day 08 - A memory, in great detail
Oct. 9th, 2010 07:28 pmMy first memory ..
I was maybe three. I know I was old enough to walk, old enough to toddle around like I owned the place. Our abilities besides floating weren't due for a couple of more years, but Kal and I floated whenever mom wasn't looking. (It's a very real fear that children will float/fly more than walk - you can see the obvious problems that could cause.) Mom had my sister and I outside, in the front yard. I think Kal might've been making mud pies, but I was mesmerized by my mom using her powers to sweep up the fallen leaves. And the colors, too, how well all of them blended together so nicely.
I wanted to touch them, so I got up, toddled over, and grabbed a pile of leaves Mom had just pushed together. Then I threw them up high, giggling the entire time. It was like magic to have all that color and beauty falling around me, and I wanted my sister to play, too.
But she was too busy. So I picked up a bunch of leaves on the wind and tossed them over at my sister, causing them to fall around her.
And that's when I noticed my mom staring at me in shock.

Day 7 - Your best friend, in great detail
Sep. 4th, 2010 08:15 amI've got 3.
( The rest. )
- My sister Kalyca. We're twins. There's just no way that anyone else will ever be as amazing as she is. No one can be closer to me than she is. She's literally the other half of me.
- Hyou D'Casciel Himoto. Probably the sanest
compared to his mates that is, nicest guy I've ever known. Puts up with a lot, let me just tell you. o.o Twin firebugs, can you even imagine? I don't know what I'd do without him. - John Hart.
hart_on_sleeve I don't know when I started considering him my BFF, but when I was in Sav's world he was the second-most person I missed. He's never looked down on me, never thought I was crazy, always thought I was great. I love him to pieces.

Day 06 – Your day, in great detail
Aug. 31st, 2010 03:12 am...My day wasn't very exciting.
I did the usual - got up, exercised. I'm never gonna be ~ripped~ but I think I'm looking pretty good! Took Regina to the park, let her pee and chase the ducks. Grabbed breakfast from the bakery - I'm so glad Kalyca is coming back this weekend sometime! Emmy looks like she's about to pop! - then I went to the store. Oh - cinnamon roll with orange icing, and coffee. (As usual.)
Business was pretty slow today. I did get a pretty big order in, but I can't talk about that, as it's classified ;) but I'm excited and I'm sure the recipient will love the work! Skipped lunch. Again.
Grabbed some dinner. Chef salad with craisins and praline pecans. MmmMm. Delicious.
Then I came home. Took Reggie back to the park, let her chase more ducks and pee again.
I'm going to The Way tomorrow.
And that was my day, sort of in detail!

Sorry I didn't update yesterday! It was a pretty boring day and I just sat in front of the TV and vegged all day after work. I know, I know, I lead such an interesting life.
Does anyone wanna do something?
Anyway. This is harder for me. I've erased this definition time again and I can't come up with something that doesn't sound ridiculous and crazy.
Love transforms you. Into something better, always. That I know. That's the pure stuff, without any of the 'human' traits coming into it. It's like seeing god, and being god, all at the same time. Being worshiped and worshiping. Knowing that you can say the most ridiculous thing and that's ok, because there's no need for glamouries.
It's like falling off a building in your dreams, then waking up before you hit the ground. That rush, that relief.. that's what love is like. The adrenaline is amazing.
I can't describe it, except to say it's the greatest high there is.
Getting clean is a bitch.

I was gonna post pictures to go along with the descriptions, but I've misplaced my USB cord! D:
A note about my metabolism: It's ridiculously fast. It's one of the reasons I'm eating all the darn time.
BREAKFAST: (8 AM)
I ran down to my sister's bakery and got some coffee. I really need to start stocking my kitchen with the coffee Kalyca uses at the bakery! It's so delish.
I came home and toasted up some of my homemade cinnamon raisin bread, and added fresh butter. Mmm.
Left over steak from the night before, along with the applesauce from the picnic the other day.
MID MORNING SNACK: (10:30 AM)
More coffee. I really should start cutting down on the stuff!
A small cinnamon roll from the bakery.
LUNCHTIME: (12:30 PM)
Simple Sesame Noodles. MmMmmmMmMmm. You guys. You guys just don't know. I did throw in some shredded spicy chicken I had in the fridge. Having stuff on hand like that makes impromptu meals so easy!
I actually had a bottle of water for lunch, go me!
MIDAFTERNOON SNACK:
None! I got so distracted, I ended up missing my snack. You guys are shocked, I'm sure!
DINNER: (6:45 PM)
Nate and I ended up going to dinner. All you can eat flounder. I'd be surprised they're not endangered now, me and Nate put the hurt on them. There was flounder and hush puppies and coleslaw. I'm told it was 'Very American'. All I know is it was tasty.
And there was a ton of Pepsi, too.

Day 03 – Your parents, in great detail
Aug. 27th, 2010 11:04 pmThird time is a charm!
Anyway.
I love my mom and dad.
I love it more that we don't live together anymore.
Astrid and Bronsen were the golden couple: not only did they come from good families, they were supposed to be very, very fertile. Both sides! They were smart. High school, then college sweethearts. They never once had a fight. Paid their bills on time, made cash like crazy. And then they tried to get pregnant.
I love the fact that they wanted me and my sister so badly that they went against the Magistrates 'rules' in order to have us. In the early 90s in vitro wasn't really well known, and it was considered 'evil' by the Magistrate. Mom and Dad were pioneers in our little country. It's still frowned upon but more and more people are willing to make their own decisions in order to continue the race and more importantly, fulfill their dreams.
Mom is definitely the one that wears the pants in the family. She pays the bills, she handles telemarketers.. hell, she was the one who made the Official Decision to make use of 'unnatural practices' to get pregnant with us. My dad is really laid back - pretty much the exact opposite of my mom.
When my sister and I had our... run in with the law, my parents had our backs. To an extent. Mom's always wanted us to be perfect, and we're not, so in order to 'hide' us she pulled me from the school and home schooled me, and let my sister attend the school she'd attended. My sister... is just as stubborn as my mom, so the next year my sister was home schooled, too. There was a little give and take with her. Dad was ... well, he always reminds me of Cliff Huxtable from The Cosby Show, except less involved. He wears the sweaters though, lol. He'd rather spoil us and forget that we were teenagers, and that I had 'disabilities'.
They're hard to explain.
They wanted what was best for me, but they allowed the Magistrate to tell me, many times, that I was damaged beyond repair. They allowed my sister and I to move to a big city when we were probably too young to move because the Magistrate was getting ridiculous in their demands.
But my mom is still into the idea of being important in my hometown. She loves me, and they both want what's best for us, but they really love who they are as well.
