Third time is a charm!
Anyway.
I love my mom and dad.
I love it more that we don't live together anymore.
Astrid and Bronsen were the golden couple: not only did they come from good families, they were supposed to be very, very fertile. Both sides! They were smart. High school, then college sweethearts. They never once had a fight. Paid their bills on time, made cash like crazy. And then they tried to get pregnant.
I love the fact that they wanted me and my sister so badly that they went against the Magistrates 'rules' in order to have us. In the early 90s in vitro wasn't really well known, and it was considered 'evil' by the Magistrate. Mom and Dad were pioneers in our little country. It's still frowned upon but more and more people are willing to make their own decisions in order to continue the race and more importantly, fulfill their dreams.
Mom is definitely the one that wears the pants in the family. She pays the bills, she handles telemarketers.. hell, she was the one who made the Official Decision to make use of 'unnatural practices' to get pregnant with us. My dad is really laid back - pretty much the exact opposite of my mom.
When my sister and I had our... run in with the law, my parents had our backs. To an extent. Mom's always wanted us to be perfect, and we're not, so in order to 'hide' us she pulled me from the school and home schooled me, and let my sister attend the school she'd attended. My sister... is just as stubborn as my mom, so the next year my sister was home schooled, too. There was a little give and take with her. Dad was ... well, he always reminds me of Cliff Huxtable from
The Cosby Show, except less involved. He wears the sweaters though, lol. He'd rather spoil us and forget that we were teenagers, and that I had 'disabilities'.
They're hard to explain.
They wanted what was best for me, but they allowed the Magistrate to tell me, many times, that I was damaged beyond repair. They allowed my sister and I to move to a big city when we were probably too young to move because the Magistrate was getting ridiculous in their demands.
But my mom is still into the idea of being important in my hometown. She loves me, and they both want what's best for us, but they really love who they are as well.
