Kairos Aether is being Sneaky.
Very, very sneaky.
It's not every day that Connor isn't in his smithy, doing blacksmithy things, smelling like smoke and metal and sweat - all things she's come to not-so-secretly lust for, so she's not exactly complaining there.
And it's certainly not every day that Kai finds herself in his shop, looking to unload something she'd made him.

She settles on the anvil.
When Connor sees it, he'll probably recognize Kai's usual heavy off-white cardstock. This time, using Macleod colors, it's decorated with a stylized 495, using some of the scrollwork she's seen Connor use these many months.

On the inside, there's a simple, You didn't think I forgot, did you?

"It's not going to be my favorite thing ever, but I'll live. I do like the outdoors - maybe we could find some sort of cabins?"

Connor's expression relaxes into a quiet smile again. "I'll see if there's a cabin or a hotel nearby, and I can take a day to go hiking..." He doesn't want her obligated to do anything she might not enjoy, even for his birthday trip.

She slides her hands up his arms. "Find a cabin. It'll be more romantic." There's just something idyllic about waking up with him and watching the sun rise in the early, quiet mornings. "You're up for some romance, riiiight?"

"Always." His grin is a little wolfish, and as she slides her hands up his arms, his arms go down lower to wrap around her so he can scoop her up.

Connor likes quiet mornings, but he could probably be convinced to stay in bed for a few, with her, if they're both awake early and restless.

There's an amused little sound at the scooping. "Good man." And she'll go in for another kiss.

He kisses back, settling onto the chair with her on his lap. "I'm not really, but I'll take the compliment anyway."

She rolls her eyes. "Please. You're an amazing man." She's ready to insist, Connor.

"Oh, Amazing is fine, I'm just not good..." He grins and nuzzles her neck, nipping lightly, as if trying to imply how bad he can be.

Underlying the play is the honest belief that he's not that morally strong. He does what he has to, and remembers his flaws too hard to think of himself as more than just a man, not a good one.

"You'll allow me to vehemently disagree, yes?" There's more kisses, because Kairos really can't leave his mouth alone. "I'm not sure I could be with a man that's not good." She believes so, anyway. It's just not her nature to be with anyone who isn't a good person. With that said, she's entirely aware she always sees the good in people, sometimes to a fault.

"Mmm...mmmmn?" Yes, he could probably argue if he felt like it, but instead goes the route of keeping his own mouth occupied returning kisses, because that's far more interesting. She may never convince him he's a good man, but she could easily talk him into some distracting birthday activities. His hand is already creeping under her clothes to get at her bra hooks.

She's just going to pretend that's him agreeing with her, and not just letting himself get distracted by her mouth. Who knew her lips were so fascinating?!

"Hadn't planned to get this far quite yet, handsome," she whispers. "But I'm not complaining."

"Oh?" *kiss* "What did you have planned?" He'll just settle for licking her neck and jaw so she has a chance to answer.

"There's a .. Mmmm." She tilts her neck some. "That's nice. There's a .. a present for you. And maybe dinner...?" Thoughts are fuzzy right now.

"Mmm..." He nuzzles. "That doesn't sound bad at all. What's for dinner?" At the question, he straightens up a little, because clearly the answer to this is important.

"Isn't steak and potatoes the requisite meal for occasions like this?" She is such a good recovering vegetarian.

"Steak and potatoes is the perfect meal anytime." He grins a little. Connor has simple tastes.

She stares at him, suddenly so freaking in love it's a little scary. There was a time when he just wouldn't smile so easily. It makes her heart swell to bursting, feels like. "Yyeeahh, but if I did that I couldn't make you pasta." Kairos makes a killer Carbonara.

Connor has come a long way, although he's still prone to quiet moods and the occasional evening drinking and looking mournfully nostalgic. Some immortals deal with what they are better than others, and he freely admits he's struggled with it.

Today, he's very much content, and smiling seems natural. "Everything you make is good. If I didn't keep busy in the forge I'd get fat."

"Please. I keep you busy enough in other pursuits."

He gives that trademark raspy chuckle, and squeezes her close, nuzzling her neck again. "So you'll help me work off dinner, later?"

Kairos doesn't mind those morose moments. It really encourages her to not take that smile and those happy moments for granted.

Which she isn't doing right now.
She is, however, giggling like a loon and trying not to completely scrunch up like a turtle. His lips tickle! "I have to say, I did buy something in case you were up for some ... exercise."

Considering the tiny bits and pieces of his history he occasionally tells her, he's had plenty of things in his life to be gloomy about. Connor had a rough start, and moodiness is simply a part of who he is, by now.

The stubble is a part of who he is, too, and it's not helping with the ticklishness. "Oh? What did you get me? Will you be sharing it?"

"I'm not sure you're the lacey sort, love. I'll wear it, and you can peel it off of me."

He grins. "Good. Unwrapping presents is the best part." Her neck is nibbled again.

She giggles, and her ear twitches a little. "Guess we should get dinner started then, before you have dessert."
